I became a teacher at 21.
I graduated from Uni and then moved out to China 2 days later. I just got on with it. On my visa it says I am a ‘foreign language expert.’ There are many opportunities for young native English speakers to become teachers all over the world.
My friend asked me this same quesion the other day and said that I wasn’t a proper teacher. I am. She said that I wasn’t because she could do it if she wanted to. I said that I could be a rubbish collector or fireman if I wanted to… but I am not.
I knew nothing before i came out here.
I would learn the basics, learn to count to 10 because then you can count to 99, learn basic conversations, like “how much does this cost?” “I want…” “water” “fried rice” “dumplings”
You will pick it up anyway but if you have a foundation you will pick it up easier.
